When I think about these two, I seriously have tears in my eyes. That's super cheesy, but what can I say?
It's just...true.
Rachel found me on Brandon Werth's website, and I can't thank that man enough for it. When Rachel and I first met, I had a hard time choking back my tears. Her story is one of redemption, and God's complete love and grace when you hand over the reigns to Him, and simply - let go. It's a lesson we all learn in life, but one so utterly worth it.
Because when you do, amazing things happen.
Like Rachel + Kyle.
Their love story makes you remember once again, that dreams truly do come true.
And every girl deserves this kind of love.

Their sweet and FUN daughter! She is a joy!

This wedding touched my heart in so many, many ways. And to do it with Brandon Werth? Well, that was just icing on the cake. Brandon is a true artist, and he captures weddings in such an in-depth way, it makes you feel like you literally stepped back into it. I adore him, and have nothing but his praises to sing. Thank you, Brandon!!

WI Bride Inspiration Shoot

Emily and I sat at a crowded Caribou last spring and talked about a lovely WI inspiration shoot that uses only WI vendors, and showcases the beauty of our state. I think that sometimes midwestern weddings can be overlooked, but the midwest has a TON of beauty in it! The rolling hills, the green lush grass, the rustic barns... the list goes on! We took what we loved, and incorporated it into one pretty amazing shoot - and the results are gorgeous!
I was really honored to be a part of this, and get to know Emily more, as well as Dani with Studio Fleurette. These two really are amazingness all rolled into one pretty bow! Like anyone, it's really important to me to align myself with quality vendors who love what they do, have such deep passion for the quality of their work, and are genuine and loving. I adore these girls, and pretty much think we are the dream team. :D
This shoot was highlighted in WI Bride magazine, and Emily also posted some more in-depth photos on her blog last week. I wanted to show you some of my personal favs from the day as well!

New years dreams + MoniRose gowns. perfection.

Like everyone else in.the.world, I have been thinking about my goals and aspirations for 2012. I don't have an overwhelming amount, just a hand full. Some of them seem out of reach, but I know you can't ever aim too high.
ever.
So, I pen them out and seal them close to my heart whispering them only to Robby in the night. I adore the promise of having a dream, just waiting to be fulfilled. It has so much expectancy to it. So much hope. There is just nothing like it.
One of the things that I desire to start doing on this here little blog, is to highlight vendors.
Vendors I believe in.
Vendors that have passion.
Vendors that are boutiques in nature and style.
...Vendors, well, I guess, like me. :) We always hear of the recognized vendors, but not as much about the smaller shops...many of them that work from home, and are pursuing their dreams one step at a time. I have absolutely nothing against the bigger buisness'-in fact, I give them a high five! But once a month, I want to bring attention to the small business owners. Maybe they are new to the industry, or maybe not as known in our circle.
With all that said {in maybe too many words necessary}, I want to introduce to you my first of 12 selected vendors: MoniRose!! MoniRose is located in Madison, WI and creates custom gowns for brides. I discovered her last year, and she provided me with a BEAUTIFUL wedding gown for an inspiration shoot I did with Ms. Emily Steffen {more on that in the next few weeks!}. Her work is quality, and her heart and love-super sweet.
And for those girls thinking Madison is too far away....it's not! Trust me. It's worth the short drive!

MONIROSE - BE-SPOKE GOWNS

Give a brief description on your services.
Through my label monirose I create bespoke, or custom, wedding gowns. My design service allows a bride to have a hand in creating a one-of-a-kind gown to wear on her wedding day. A monirose gown is unique in that is handcrafted, from sketch to bustle, by me, using professional techniques and quality materials and trimmings.

Give your vision for this business.
Unique and joyfully handmade. I want to provide each of my brides with an exceptionally crafted gown that is made to fit her uniquely and that makes her feel truly radiant, with a couture service experience without the designer price tag.
I am also introducing more organic and sustainable materials into my gowns whenever possible - because the impact of even one gown is great! Additionally, I donate a portion from each wedding gown sale to the Elizabeth House and St. Vincent de Paul Society of Madison.

How long have you been designing?
I grew up in a large family with a mom who was always creating something; sewn, painted, or woven, when she wasn’t canning or baking! I didn’t start sewing “for myself” until college, when I grew frustrated with ill fitting and cheaply made garments in retail stores. As I was also student-poor, I picked up a sewing machine to craft a cocktail dress for a big event and sewing became a steady love affair! For my own wedding (2007), after falling in love with a couture wedding dress at a local boutique -obviously out of my budget- I could not say yes to a cheaper dress. Thus, I undertook to create a gown that I saw in my mind’s eye but could not find in a store. Ever since, I have been helping other brides adorn themselves in bespoke gowns.

What is the process in designing a customized wedding dress?
It usually starts with a -somewhat nervous and eager- bride contacting me with her initial ideas. I adore when a bride comes to me with a whole inspiration board of pictures, silhouettes, or moods/themes regarding her wedding and dream dress - whether simple or elaborate. Through conversation, we distill these ideas into a cohesive vision and sketch. I suggest and search down the perfect fabrics, lace, and trimmings from a variety of local and online sources. Often it is helpful for brides to have tried on gowns in a shop so she can get a feel for the styles of gowns she likes and look best on her.
Next, I create a cotton toile (or ‘muslin’) of the gown for fitting purposes. This allows us not only to perfect the fit on her body, but also the lines and details of the design. It is her first chance to see how the sketch translates toward a real gown.
Once we’ve tweaked the toile, it is used as the pattern and I begin creating the actual gown from the fabrics we’ve chosen. Usually, there are one or several fittings as the gown comes together. In the final fitting(s), I make sure that everything fits perfectly and execute the finishing touches, such as bustle and veil.

Talk to me about prices.
Custom gowns can be surprisingly affordable! I know that many brides struggle to match budget with the dream gown, and I want to eliminate that stress (girls, I was there myself once!!) I am happy to work with a wide range of budgets: for most of my brides, their investment is between $400 to $2000.
Beyond the price tag, the value of a bespoke gown is not only what you pay, but also what was put into it. There is something exceptionally beautiful and intimate about owning and adorning yourself in a garment that was made uniquely for your wedding day! A monirose bride walks down the aisle in a gown that reflects and celebrates her uniquely.
Additionally, having a gown tailors to you specifically, eliminates any secondary alteration costs to fit or modify the gown (an often hidden cost of ‘off the rack’ dresses). The quality of both labor and materials is never compromised, and I work with mostly natural materials, such as silk and cotton. For brides with limited budgets, I am happy to suggest options in styling as well as materials and trimmings (but never polyester satin :P) in order to make a custom gown possible.

What is the average length of time it takes to complete a wedding dress?
The length of time it takes to complete a custom gown varies! I have created gowns in as little as a couple of weeks, however, most clients work with me over the course of 4-8 months.
As I am limited in the number of completely bespoke pieces I can create at a given time, I encourage brides to contact me sooner than later to begin the creation process.

Can you make bridal party wear as well?
Absolutely! I adore working with brides to provide their bridesmaids and flower girls with special, custom frocks! Bridesmaid dresses can range from $120-300; flower girl dresses range from $50-150.00 (approximately). I have also made other special occasion dresses, and have a special place in my heart for ANY little girls dress or baptism gown.

a rhino filled with joy.

I started this year with so much anticipation and complete and utter joy.
I end the year with that same expectancy and smile on my face.
Does that mean the year was a piece of cake? absolutely not.
But it does mean that through the trials that were presented to me, I learned through them.
I grew.
I challenged myself to go through with preserving, and never ever giving up.
But some days I was tempted.
{...dare I say that on the world wide web? I dare. }
Maintaining your own business has it's ups and downs.
But in the end, it is completely worth it.

It's been said to me in the past that I am a rhino. Meaning I charge through, without looking back.
I used to laugh at that and nod in agreement, but this year I have never been more proud to own that. ...because if I wasn't a rhino, would I be where I am today?

This has been my dream, and to watch it continue to unfold, and blossom...well, there are no words {THANK YOU, LORD}. I'm so excited to see where else this business takes me.

Real Wedding:: Eric + Sarah, Hager City WI

I laughed with delight when I first sat down with Eric and Sarah. Because they are those kind of people. People that bring so much laughter, joy, and zeal for living in each moment. They choose that. Their friends and family choose that.
....and their wedding was just that.
A perfect farm venue in Wisconsin, mixed with a light hearted couple and amazing vendors...my heart was bursting at the seams. I loved.loved.loved this day!

They did something incredibly special for their ceremony. Each of their attendants were given moments to say something about Eric + Sarah. Whether it be a poem, a song, a memory, or a blessing. I had not seen this done before, and was so inspired and touched by it. What a wonderful way of including people you love in your ceremony!

Eric's grandpa officiated. He is simply wonderful!

Sarah + Eric have a love for sharks, so why not bring that into the day?! They did, and it was so them!

an alternative to flower bouquets.

I work with so many budgets, but am constantly working towards helping my clients get the most stretch to their dollar. I simply adore the vendors I work with, but my clients are my number one priority{obviously!}.
So... today I want to talk about flower alternatives!
Now don't get me wrong-I adore flowers! Show me a peony or some ranunculus, and a huge smile will brighten my face! This post is for the bride on a budget, where flowers aren't a huge priority.

The brooch bouquet has become super popular over the past few years. These can be time consuming, but come out so beautiful and specific to you. I love this smaller version! It shows that you don't need something huge to make a statement.

Real Wedding:: Briana + Aaron, St Paul, MN

Briana is the sweetest. truly. She loved all of my ideas, and continually made me smile.
And than I met Aaron. And when they looked at each other, my heart melted. The photos are proof to their love for one another. There is nothing more truly satisfying for me when I see that~complete adoration.
Their wedding day was beautiful with sun and some crazy wind! We rolled with the it, and everything turned out amazing. After the ceremony the guests took off in a riverboat for cocktail hour {so fabulous}, and returned for dinner at the pavilion.
Aaron is a beat boxer {HeatBox}, which I had never had the privilege of hearing. I feel in love with the art of it!

Briana had a tight budget with floral, so we brought in pinwheels for her maids! LOVE.

Briana's mom made 1000 paper cranes for good luck.
We had to get creative in finding places for 1000 cranes, but our mission was a success!

I think part of it has to do with simply getting older, but seriously. My heart overflows with thankfulness.
Not just now. But every day.
Sometimes when the blues strike me, I have to make a conscious effort to stop... because we are so blessed.
...for health. for life. for food. for family. for laughter...
The list can go on, and differs from person to person. The point is - we ALL have things to lift our hands to and praise God for.
There are things personally in my life that my heart is overflowing about, and tears of gratitude well my eyes. I simply do not want to take life for granted.

Real Wedding:: Andy + Dianne, Chaska, MN

Dianne + Andy.... their love story is sweet, and perfect. It's full of chatter, laughter, and joy.. and it's contagious. When you're with these two, a sense of joy is ever present. Nothing can wipe the smile off of your face because as you look at them, there is such a presence of peace. They are perfect for one another-in all the most beautiful ways of perfection.
Their wedding brought me joy. There is no other way to describe it. Just PURE JOY. Dianne is a youth pastor at her church, and has been for eight years....and wow. I have such adoration for this woman. Being with middle school kids can be rewarding, but tiring too. I have ONE, and she wears me out!! :) Dianne has such passion for it though, and it shows as she talks about the all nighters, camp retreats, and bible studies she is orchestrating. I have a secret desire to move to Excelsior, just so she can be my daughter's middle school Pastor. :)
Andy is a techy guy with some serious artistic talents! Andy and I worked pretty closely on many of the wedding elements, which was a first for me {guys + weddings usually doesn't mesh!}, and I loved it! He had such an awareness of what Dianne would love, and also some serious style! :)
One thing I love about these two is how well they respect one another. Each time I am with them I walk away inspired by their love.

Each guest received a handkerchief personalized for the wedding.

The binoculars had KK&Scotty's e-shoot in them for guests to view! SO FUN!

KK {who is super creative} made a chart of how they know each one of their guests!
The work that went into this was so impressive.

Their love for dogs was spilled into many details!

No traditional wedding food! Down home cooking is what KK wanted.
It was one of the best wedding dishes I have ever eaten.

Vinage dishes were trunked up from her mom's house.
They added to the already amazing elements of the wedding day!

SUCH A BEAUTY.

We spotted the cotton candy machine during the planning process, and both just KNEW it had to be a part of the day!

Real Wedding:: KK & Scotty / Grand View Lodge, Nisswa, MN {part one}

When I think back to KK & Scotty's wedding, a huge smile deepens my face, and I instantly deeply miss that girl. {KK, we must get coffee soon!}.

KK is a ball of fun, mixed with a huge heart, and creative to the core.

The first time I met her she told me she wanted a wedding that reflected the movie Big Fish. I was instantly excited as this was out of the box, and just plain FUN. She wanted elements that were not the norm, a bit circus in nature, mixed with a backyard feeling that never strayed from elegance.

The results were mind blowing, and seriously-Martha-this wedding could be featured on the front of your next magazine.

I do not exaggerate.

So, you know, hook a girl up! :)

KK and I worked very closely in the details of this wedding, as it was full service. It was a joy to help create this day for her, and see the delight reflected in her eyes as she watched the day unfold. One of my favorite moments is when she grabbed me at the end of the day, and told me this day was beyond what she even created in her mind. Nothing fills a planners heart than that. When we hear that, all the hard work and sweat melt away, and we are on a permanent high. So, KK-thank you. Thank you for being so amazing, so sweet, so welcoming into your family, and becoming a friend. I love you!

Because there are so many amazing details to this wedding, today I will feature the first part of the day.

Maggie with Grand View Lodge went above & beyond. Every request we threw at her she handled with ease and love. I was super impressed with the work ethic and love that the Grand View put into the day.

Dani with Studio Fleurette blew me away. Our florist ended up quitting 10 days before the wedding, and I called Dani in a pinch. She not only jumped on with all of her heart, but she handled it all with grace. The flowers were so beautiful and perfected the vision. Brides, call her. There will simply be no regret!

Whitney with Laura Ivanova Photography was fun and professional to work with. The day was hot, and there were many details and elements to capture. She handled it all without a blink, and is a lot of fun to work with too.

When I met Amy on a cold winter day early this year, I instantly loved her.
I mean, seriously? What's not too love? She's fun, energetic, super organized, great style, and has a deep love for Brett.
So, when she hired me, I literally leapt for joy.

Heavens to betsy.... what a fabulous weekend!
Robby and I knew we needed to get away to celebrate our anniversary, and the end of the 2011 wedding season. We found ourselves at Stouts Island Lodge thanks to one of my amazing wedding planner perks.
I can't shout the praises of this place enough. Where we are in our lives, and for what we needed- it was beyond perfection. There are no disturbances with TV, phones, Internet-nothing but water surrounding you with tons of water activities, wilderness to explore, and fires to make.
It's a place to un-plug and focus on one another with no interruptions!
It was beyond perfection.
I also went to scout out this venue, and am very much anticipating going back for a wedding. It truly is a beautiful place to get married in.

weddings, goodbyes & an anniversary.

This past weekend was a mixture of emotions for me....my last wedding of the season, my last wedding with my amazing assistant, and my 12 year wedding anniversary.
My last wedding to wrap up 2012 was...beyond incredible. The couple, the family, the wedding party...they are why I am in this business. They bring tears of joy to my eyes. If you haven't gotten this from me already here it is: my goal and drive to having a successful business is to see the couple, their family, & their friends literally soaking in the essence that is the wedding day. Laughing, crying tears of joy, dancing, singing - whatever it may be - when they are soaking, and not worrying about the day, I have done my job successfully. When the bride feels like a princess, and is looking at her new husband with such adoration and love, nothing fills me like that. I have managed to alleviate her stress, making my heart swell.
I also had to say goodbye to my assistant, who has become a dear friend. She gets me. Working closely with someone, you can't help but get to know them at their worst and best- she has loved me through it all, and has been always so respectful and loving. MJ, I will deeply miss you. Your heart, your hard work ethics, your laughter, how you think I'm funny :), and your deep love for the Lord. You inspire me.
Because of weddings, Rob and I are going away for our anniversary this weekend. Last night we were talking about our day 12 years ago. I remember snippets of it only. One of my little snippets is going into the bathroom alone during the reception, and feeling like a mess. My hair was a mess, my makeup was smudged, and I did not feel pretty. I don't say that for pity, because really, that is when my interest peeked in this desire to give brides the day they deserve. And now, I love that I am doing just that.
... and my heart soars.

I miss you already, MJ.

Real Wedding :: Kara & Steven / part 2

To say that the details of this wedding were amazing, would be an understatement. They defined creativity and personality. It was fun to create an intimate setting amongst 300 guests on a huge piece of land. I would say mission: successful.

Buffets for food added a ton of character.

They are huge chinese food fans, so adding a bit of asian flavor was a win!

Real Wedding :: Kara & Steven, Menomonie, WI

When I first heard that Kara and Steven were dating, I remember clearly being in my basement cleaning out baskets. I immediately started dreaming about their wedding day...because I just knew.

knew they were going to get married.

knew the kind of wedding Kara would want.

...and knew that I wanted desperately to be a huge part.

Kara is my pastors daughter, and she has a huge spot in my heart. I was her youth pastor so many years ago, and so the bond grew all the way back than. I have watched her grow in her love for the Lord, and who she is as a person. She is truly vibrant and someone you just want to be around. Someone you can't help but utterly adore, and insanely want to call for fashion advice. Her heart is genuine, and kind. Her smile pure and radiant.

Steven is our worship leader and has an amazing and hungry heart for the Lord. He has grown so much, and I am inspired by him continually. I love how open and real he is about his journey, and completely devoted to being a light, shining for the Lord, and growing.

I could not have been more happy for Steven and Kara. They are complete in each other.

Kara wanted a bohemian wedding that was fun, whimsical, and outside. We decided to utilize our church land that is currently a huge open field, and bring the indoors out. With the help of dozens of people, we created a beautiful space with a ton of antique furniture. The work was extensive, but the effect so well worth it!

Today I want to highlight the first portion of the day, with more fun details of the reception later in the week!

Something I do at every wedding is look at the groom as the bride is walking down the aisle. I am never disappointed.

Part of fall that I simply adore is snuggling under a thick blanket on my deck with a hot fav drink of choice. I'm always loving new recipes to explore, so when I found these on A Beautiful Mess, I fell in love with them. I can't wait to try them out this week!

So, my obsession with pumpkin treats is a little out of hand. Oddly enough, though, I don't really care for pumpkin pie. It doesn't make much sense. I add it up as the texture of pumpkin pie turns me off.
This pumpkin shake looks like divinity in a glass.

Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

To make a single milkshake blend together 1 slice of pumpkin pie { it can be homemade or pre-bought}, 2 cups of vanilla ice cream, and one to one and half cups milk. If you are making multiple milkshakes at once simply double or triple this recipe.

I have been loving sea salt lately so the combo of that and chocolate really appeals to me.

Salted Carmel Hot Chocolate

Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate, makes 2 large servings.

Needed: 16 ounces milk or cream (I used a combination of 8 ounces milk and 8 ounces cream), 4 ounces dark chocolate, 4 ounces chocolate caramel (such as Hershey's version), a pinch or two of sea salt.

In a sauce pan or small pot heat half (8 ounces) of the milk and 4 ounces chopped dark chocolate and salt until melted. Continue heating and whisk in the remaining milk and 4 ounces chopped chocolate caramel. Continue whisking until the entire mixture is warmed through and smooth in texture.

Serve with a little whipped cream, a drizzle of caramel and a sprinkle of sea salt.

I told that to my beautiful assistant last week.
"This summer has been a lump of learning." She laughed at me {pretty typical, I love that she thinks I'm funny!}, but in all sincerity, it has been.
I have been reminded often this year, that without falling you can never learn from your mistakes. My pastors taught me that, and it has been embedded in my brain.
So, I continue to grow. and learn. and sometimes fall...But always lean on the Lord for strength and wisdom.

Le Sigh.
This wedding brings a smile immediately to my face. Karyn & Lonny are such sweet, funny, and overall -- awesome people!! To say how much I loved their wedding, would be an understatement. I loved the details that Karyn brought in through the day.. soft, whimsical, and intimate elements that captivated who they are.

Beautiful story on Karyn's dress. This was the dress her heart longed for, but her budget couldn't afford. So her mom, knowing her heart, surprised Karyn and bought it for her. SO SWEET.
And the dress? It couldn't have been any more beautiful.

Well, school started today for the kids. To me, this is always the realization that summer is officially over, and fall is upon us. I am in denial about the end of summer every year. I hate to see it end, even though I absolutely love fall and everything it brings...
This summer, many great memories are stored in my heart. One of which I want to touch on today.
Some of you know this about me, some of you may not...but I am very selective of the girlfriends I let into my heart & life. I am one of those girls that has a small selective amount of girls that really know me. Today, I want to talk about one of those girls...Suwanee.
Suwanee and I met our sophomore year in High School, and since than, we have always had this amazing friendship that never lessens over the years. There's something so hilarious when we are together... something that is completely ditsy, yet refined and to the max all out girly too. The laughter when we are together can be heard across the miles-are hearts are connected no matter the length of time apart.
Suwannee was the person to push me to take that first scared step into this career. She has her own very successful photography business {www.suwaneephotography.com}, and through her counsel, tips, encouragement and advice, I took the first step. Though timid and frightened, I did. She cheered me on and snapped new photos of me in the process. I can honestly never thank her enough.
This summer I got to see her. It is one of my favorite memories of the summer. Suwanee currently lives in Spokane, WA but is moving to St Louis next month, so the timing was just perfect. One last hurrah for us in Spokalicious {my home, than her home}, and laughter to carry me through till the next time we embrace.
I'm forever thankful for the girlfriends I have, though small and tight, they are such a rock of support and love to me. Suwanee, you are a treasure...and I simply love you, your heart, and your laughter.

Well, I did it. I took a vacation during wedding season.
At first I thought I was insane.
...but now I realize the fruit of this decision.
I am half way through the season, this will make me refreshed and rejuvenated for the remainder of the season.
We are visiting family in Spokane, and throughly enjoying the amazing weather {can you give three cheers for NO humidity!?}, fun family, and having no agenda! Bliss.
I will be back in the swing of life next Wednesday. Until than, my correspondence will be scarce.

On a side not, Spokane was our first home when we first got married. It floods me with memories every time we visit.

Today I gave my legs a once over and was appalled by the number by bruises, mosquito bites, and sores. I let out a sigh, and longed to go to the salon for another pedi.
But than I saw this look on a photo from one of my May weddings...and I smiled.

This makes bruised legs so completely worth it.

One thing I stress in my business is that you are my number one. To see these looks exchanged between the two of you means that you are lost in the day, and your love. That means I have relieved any stress from you.

...and this means the world to me.

real wedding - St Paul, MN::Burke+Brittany

The first time I met Brittany her eyes sparkled as she told me about how Burke proposed with fireworks [well, okay! a sparkler-but the thought was still there}! :) It was evident from the start that Burke & Brittany are a match made in heaven..or on match.com. Whichever you prefer! :)
The day that their wedding shined upon them, their love could not have been more evident.
One thing that I cherish seeing on a wedding day, is the groom and his emotions. They are so raw and real. Burke made me smile throughout the day as I watched him stare at his new bride with complete love and adoration. I'm pretty confident his eyes welled up on more than one occasion, too. :)
This was my 1st wedding of the season, and it could not have fallen on more a perfect day. I was beyond honored to spend the day loving on this sweet couple, and making their dream wedding come true.

Their bridal party was hands down amazing! I was IN LOVE with them!

I've been asked before what my fav moments are of a wedding day. I have several, there is not just one. It's the parts of the day that I get seriously giddy about, and wait for. It makes my cup run over, and the smile on my face can light up a stage. {yes, I just said that!}

Here are a list-in no particular order-that you will see me ready to do somersaults over on a wedding day.

1. The moments before the bride walks down the aisle.

This moment, not many are privy too. It's very private and sacred. I fluff thEE dress, straighten the veil, look the bride in the eyes and whisper words to only her. I look over at the father, and his eyes glisten with tears. He reaches over and grabs her hand and squeezes it. She tells him she loves him....oh gosh. I cherish that moment and am so honored to be a part of it.

2. Father-Daughter dance.

Something about this is so special. This is their time to bask in each others embrace. A time set aside for JUST them. It always causes my eyes to tear.

3. Grandparents.

I love grandparents. {enough said}

4. The first look.

I have a preference towards first looks. They are so special, and so intimate.

5. Family prayers.

These don't happen at every wedding, so I really cherish them at the weddings I do see them at. Before the ceremony, the family comes around the bride, or the groom {or both} and prays over the day. You will see me in the background wiping away tears and agreeing. It is so powerful.

As a wedding coordinator, it's very easy to get trapped into the details of the wedding day and, for me, forget why I love this. Don't get me wrong, details-gosh, I love them. a lot.

But details on a wedding day is not the reason I started this business.

I started this business so that every bride would feel like a princess. Because every couple deserves the opportunity to have a day that is completely stress free and beautiful.

This desire has evolved over the years into a deep love for what a wedding holds in its form. The essence, if you will.

The wedding day is the beginning to a new start; a new chapter for couples. This is the day they become one unit. And that? That is so powerful and amazing.

...and to me, beyond beautiful.

I challenge myself when I get caught into the overwhelming-ness of owning and operating a business to stop. breathe. and completely re-focus. Why do I do what I do? Am I getting lost in it? Or am I growing and being the person that God has made me to be? Am I shining? Or am I flickering away?

I believe in my heart that even though some days are hard, & some days I may be flickering, I always come out shining.

Ah! The guilt for not having posted in at least a couple weeks eats away at me.

Egads!

Time is flying by, wedding season is in full bloom, and my kids get out of school this week already! SUMMER--I truly love thee.

to the fullest.

One of my favorite things to do every spring, is plan my Church's grad reception. Last year we had an old school house theme and I thought truly, we could not surpass that amazing-ness. Somehow, we did.

These year, we based it off of "Oh the Places You'll Go" by Dr. Suess. I had never read the book until I started planning the details, but it is an amazing book. I recommend as a grad gift, or for someone who is about to go through any change in life.

It is always so much fun thinking of the little details. I have people that that talk to me about planning parties, and feel overwhelmed at the process. One thing that I always tell them is to first think of a theme. Without the theme, nothing is co-hesive.

I always start with a inspiration board which gets my ideas and thoughts in one place.

This is the inspiration board I made for the Grad reception. After gathering ideas, thinking of the space, & searching online this was easy to put together and kept my thoughts in one place.

I used cute sayings from the book to advertise the event as well as signage through the decor.

This sign stole the show! I love having such creative friends!

Having green eggs and ham was a must since when you think of Dr. Suess, you think of green eggs & ham. It was a huge hit! Seriously, people were downright giddy. :)

short hair & ugly sweaters.

Sometimes random fb status' bring back memories. It happened to me this morning.

I was shot back in time as an 8 year old with short, boy-like hairs and ugly pink sweaters that were too small. My brother was beyond slow in the morning hours and I remember my mom trying to hustle him out the door--always late. Of course my sister, the eldest, and always responsible one, was already waiting at the bus stop as the bus emerged from around the corner. Not us, no. We would come flailing out the door, running at top speed for the bus. To this, my sister rolled her eyes and said to the bus driver "they're coming"...to which he would roll his eyes as well.
He disliked us.
It's sweet memories like this that make my heart smile. Memories with my siblings are so sweet when you are older. When I was young, well, a different story!

I pray daily that my children will hold these sweet memories in their hearts as they grow into young people. When the girls' fight, I remind them that one day they will be best friends.

I am so in.love with save the dates because you can get super creative and fun with them. When one of my clients sent this over for their October wedding, I flipped and had a perma smile on my face. They are SO CREATIVE and I know their wedding is going to be stocked full of amazing details and super - super fun!

ah, THEE wedding. I sat fixated by the TV as I smiled at all the lovely hats and thought heavily about the coordinator behind such a huge event. They did not highlight her but in my head, she is a miracle woman.

My highlights:

~ the young boy singers. I was wow-ed by their sweet voices.

~ prince harry. I officially have a crush on this boy but am already setting up him and pippa in my mind. {of course!}

~ obviously the dress! how much do you want to bet sleeves are going to make their appearance again?! :) {side note: was Kate's bouquet on the small side? to me it got lost in the beauty of her dress}

~ her dad. he just looks so so sweet {and I have a special weakness towards daughters and dad's pre-ceremony}

Easter is my favorite holiday. It's full of beauty as the winter dirt & gray is swept away, and new colors merge from the ground...It's full of new life! How can one not love this? If I was a photographer, I would take pictures of me running through the new green grasses that are merging from the grounds as I hold chicks...but I am not. Just know that in my heart, that's where I am.

Random thoughts for this Wednesday:

~It's snowing. I choose to ignore and turn on the fire place because it's beautiful to look at, but I swear--this better be the last time until November I turn it on!

~I've been dreaming in time lines. Um, it's wedding season when my dreams revolve around my clients. :)

~We are looking for a new car. Preferably a Hyundai. With low miles. At an amazing price. And black..because every one knows black cars are way cooler.

Today I took the time...

to read. Reading is so good for your soul, your mind, and developing time for you. I'm trying to do that more.

to take a walk. It's beautiful out today. These days I have been working really hard. I forced myself away from the computer to soak in the sun and warmer rays... and gosh, it felt great!

to have popcorn with my kids. I randomly found this blog post where the mom makes popcorn after school every day, and has that time to connect with her kids. This drew me in and I tried it today... and I loved.

to schedule a massage for myself. I haven't had a massage-in gosh..YEARS! It's time. I deserve it, right? Right!

I love paper. Textures, weight, and style - it draws me in.

That being said, I also love trends. A couple weeks ago I met with one of my darling July brides. She told me about her wedding invitation and how it was going to be made on cloth. Well, that just intrigued me too much that I had to go home to find out more on this new trend.

And guess what? I am in.love.

I always love the newest trends. It's like having your first in-and-out burger.

There's just nothing quite like it.

This one is pretty much the coolest thing ever. It's a small story book!

In a sea of boxes.

Quite literally.

I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures of the overwhelming amount of boxes that literally filled our new home. My Gretchen said "It's like a maze to walk through here."

Indeed.

I know I have been so MIA, but I have not forgotten you! Were slowly getting settled and making this new home- a home. Which is a huge deal to me. Last night we hung the curtains to which I did a skip and dance. Well, yes, it's the little things for me.

On to other news filling my life, we picked an 2011 intern and I'm downright giddy on who we choose. She will be revealed later in the week so stay tuned!

And because my greatest obsession at wedding is cake pops, here's some eye candy.

My second favorite event to plan after weddings, is showers. Bridal showers are a favvvv, but baby showers are a second close. It's probably due to the fact that i.love.babies. Newborns are such a treasure. So small. So dependent on you. and they smell oh so sweet.

Put a baby in my arms and you will see me glow {but I am done! Don't get any thoughts! :)}.

My sweet little sister is expecting her first at the end of this month. Oh, to go back to those first mommy moments. Everything is so new and different. It's a transitional point in any mom's life. I know she will love being a mom. It truly fills your heart.

My older sister and I threw her a shower a few weeks back. The theme: "Cute as a button". Seriously an amazing theme to run with for a babe shower! We were inspired and had a blast planning it.

On another note, this was my last event at my lovely home. We move next week to a new city, & a new home. I have loved living in this house. It's character and charm will be heavily missed.

There are people in your life that change you.

I am blessed to have a wonderful selection of friends and family that are those people to me, but today I want to write about two people that have had a huge impact on me.

as a person.

as a mother.

as a wife....

My pastors.

Anyone who has had the privilege of meeting these two people are nodding right now. They are amazing.

and real.

They don't pretend to be anything less than who they are.

They are passionate about God and it's evident in their day to day. Don't just give me words but show me.

They show me every day.

For the past 6 1/2 years I have been working part time as their administrative assistant. When they asked me to come on as the churches' admin, I laughed a little and told them I have no experience. They said to me "You don't, but you have the personality and the knowledge of the ministry {growing up in a missionary home}. I knew it was too good of an opportunity to pass up and boy, was I right. It's hard to put into mere words how much I have learned from watching their example, how many times I am faced with a problem and I literally think "what would Pastor Paul do?" & how much love I carry for these two people.

It just cannot be expressed.

But I'll try. Because somehow I feel like I need to pen this, as if it's part of me closing the chapter of this book. Because today? Today was my last day as their admin.

I felt it about a year ago. My business was picking up, and my heart wasn't in the job like it once had been. Did I love being there? oh, gosh-of course. But I knew my time was drawing to a close. It was just getting too hard to juggle it all and quite frankly, I didn't feel like it was fair on them. I want them to have the very best in their staff.

So, when we got an offer on our home, I knew the time had come.

I knew it was time to open my next chapter.

In a way it's so exciting to open up a new chapter to your story, and follow your deepest passions. But I think as humans, sometimes we get scared. We don't want to open up that chapter. We don't want to see what's inside. Because we're comfortable. We're safe.

But I can't not open that chapter. Because I know beautiful things will fly off the pages. I know there is an explosion of so much more that God has for me.

And I'm grateful. Grateful for the years I had with them to glean, to learn....to fly. If it wasn't for them and how the Lord used them in my life, I know beyond a shadow of doubt I wouldn't be where I am today.

So - Paul&Dana,

Thank you. Thank you for allowing me to be such a huge part of your lives. Thank you for trusting me and believing in me. Paul, I will hugely miss our daily talks about life, about God, and even about Survivor. You have become a second father to me and I am forever grateful for those moments.

So, while I may cry today about leaving something so close to my heart, I expand my arms towards what is ahead. I am excited about the new opportunity's that lie in my horizon.

There is something about seeing a newly engaged bride-to-be that makes me silly-giddy. Her eyes are bright, and her smile wide. She carries herself with such joy, and excitement spills from her mouth as she talks.

I love meeting new brides. They are simply put:lovely.

Mai and I had the amazing privilege of being a part of the Independent Wedding Associations' Bridal Fair earlier this month at the gorgeous Campus Club. I love these fairs because not only am I surrounded by amazing and like-minded vendors, but I get to meet so many fabulous bride to be's!

it didn't go un-noticed.

One of my specific highlights of twenty-ten was to work alongside my intern, Mai. I loved how we jived together and how, as time progressed, she started to read me so well, she knew what I needed before I said a word.

It didn't go un-noticed.

I loved how we could talk very openly and candidly about our faith, our relationships, and our passions.

I loved how she would scale up trees and hang from ladders in a heart-beat. She never complained but always had a smile-even in the high stress moments.

It didn't go un-noticed.

I saw the potential in Mai from the second we met and still see it, and that is why for the twenty-eleven year, I asked her if she would consider staying on this ride with me and become my assistant.

To my excitement-she said yes. :)

Mai, thank you. thank you. thank you.

I'm so grateful you are on this journey with me. Here's to many more amazing weddings and laughs.

inspiration boards.

I have to say: I love inspiration boards. There's something about seeing what you want in your wedding, on paper, that makes it magically come together.

in one beautiful moment.

To me, inspiration boards are a key element when creating the theme and feel for your wedding. When you don't have that to turn to down the road of planning, it's easier to get 'lost'. Having the board keeps your inspiration in one place so you can stay on that road of design.

Inspiration boards are something I have recently added for clients that need help with a design concept. While we get to know one another, I am jotting down notes about what they are talking about, what they are drawn to, & what they love. From that meeting, I go home and put together a board unique to them and what they want for their wedding. Sometimes I add elements to the board that maybe they didn't mention, but I could see them loving. I tie in details that they have not thought of, and pull out details that they have that tie into many different elements for the day.

Since it's so fun for me I wanted to share with you a board that I recently put together for a client. Their theme is peacock which is hot and very fun right now. She is having a button bouquet {which I am SO excited about-I have a button fetish as of late!} so I thought it would be a fun element to bring those buttons into other details throughout the day such as the escort cards and the table numbers.

I continued with their peacock element by furthering adding more specific details in the day on elements such as plates, cake toppers and invitations.

I also played up the peacock color by adding fun throw pillows or even a shawl.

I hope you enjoyed this peek into my creative side. :)

calling interns!

Twenty-ten was such a wonderful year for elizabeth anne weddings. I jumped into the twin cities with both feet in and was met with delightful connections and new found friends. I've never looked back.

With the transition to the cities, came finding an intern...and I found Mai. She exceeded my expectations {but more on that in another post}.

Twenty-eleven is off to a great start and I'm seriously beyond excited for the weddings already on the books and the ones yet to be. With the launch of Proposal Planning and adding additional services to Wedding Planning, we are on the hunt for a new intern.

And can I be honest? Finding a new intern makes me nervous. It's hard to wrap into words, but I'm opening up my world to a person and asking her to treat it well. This isn't only my business {which stands alone as extreme importance}, but it is also my passion. So anyone I choose, reflects not only me but my business. That's a huge decision and one that I take very seriously.

I say that to say this: I love you, but only apply for this if you are serious about wedding planning. You crave to know the ins and outs of this business like you crave chocolate on a emotionally hard day.. :) hah.

1. This is a part time non-paid internship but the experience you get is priceless!

2. You must be able to travel. Our weddings are in Eau Claire, WI and the Twin Cities. You may live in the twin cities or in upper Wisconsin.

I've sat on it for what seems like forever. Just sat and thought and prayed about when to do it, how to do it, and what it would entail.

...and than I did it and it has opened up my heart to a new world.

I simply can't sit anymore.

I'm just going for it and honestly don't know all the specifics but isn't that what stepping out is all about?

So.. I'm very pleased to announce that Elizabeth Anne is launching a new and elite service: "Proposal Planning." YES! We now offer Proposal Planning as part of our services and I am so excited about it!

Last month I had the opportunity to help a friend propose to his girlfriend. He needed help and I jumped {no, really, I leaped} at the prospect of actually being involved in this. It didn't disappoint. The feelings I had through it, were exact to the feelings I get right before the bride walks down the aisle. A rush of adrenaline, a burst of joy and a feeling of warmth.

I really feel like some guys have great ideas but don't know how to tie it together and pull together the perfect proposal specific to their relationship. This is where I come in. Never in any way do I take away the ideas or concepts, I simply add to them and help you create something beautiful. Something unique and wonderful.

Kate has a natural presence of fun and energy. She is the kind of girl that after having met her for the first time, I went home and told Rob about my deep desire to plan her wedding. When she hired me, I leapt around the house and did a typical Liz shout/dance. It's pretty much a combination of leaping and yelling in one splendid un-graceful style {I am not ashamed}.

Than, I met Dave and my joy was doubling in form. He is so attentive to her and they are un-ashamedly smitten with one another. After being around them only for a few hours that first day, my heart was full.

Kate and Dave's wedding had a classic movie theme/vibe to it.

and... I.loved.it.

I have said it once and I will say it again, having a theme pulls everything together. It brings unison and sets the wedding apart.

Every detail was thought through as Kate is the kind of girl who has been planning her wedding from childhood.

and it was nothing less than perfection.

I have never felt like this before, but seriously? it was super difficult to pick my fav's from this wedding. But can you really have too many pictures? Um, I think not.

Kate's sister, Beth, was a delight. They made me want to sing the "Sister-Sister" song from White Christmas when I saw them together. So much love.

Kate's mom. Seriously, amazing. This is something I don't usually talk about, but the parents behind the couples always become my friends as well. I fall in love with them each time.

Kate was a vision the entire day. Mai and I continually remarked to each other how beautiful she is. Truly a vision.

The ceremony was held at Central. I have never seen such a beautiful church. Everywhere I looked, was simply stunning.

I cringe when I hear it.

"My uncle is gifting us with photography for our wedding"

"my FMIL told me she would make us our cake"

ouch.

I have seen it time and time again. and guess what happens on day of wedding?

You ask for this:

and you get this:

or you desire this:

and get this:

No, not every time. But guess what? it happens more than not.

Or a year passes and the happy couple has still not seen their wedding photos or they have, and they hate them because they are low quality, red eyed and blurry.

While your family has the BEST intentions and we love them for it, my advice is to steer clear from a family gifting you with a a vendor service for your wedding day.

That being said, if your family member is gifted in a certain area, and you have seen the quality of their work before and have love it, than snag that gift! But, if Aunt Sue just wants to experiment on her handiwork by putting together a floral bouquet and she shows up with {gasp} fake flowers {yuuuuck}, pass politely and quickly.

I think all of us brides who have made this mistake {yes, even I did 11 years ago!} are shouting "hear - hear" from all over the web. :)

it does something to make me just want to sit down and pen my thoughts as I think back on the year. the joys, the pains and the accomplishments. they are all part of the journey.

there is something exciting about starting a new year. some people have had a hard year and want to start afresh. some have resolutions, and some have goals.

mine are wrapped into both all year long. not only today or tomorrow. but all year...

find joy in each day. even if the day is hard - choose joy.

treasure moments. moments that are simple. moments that are full of life. moments to store in the depths of my heart.

follow my heart. God will lead my steps. trust Him.

These are all the sounds in my household this week. The girls' are off from school and relishing in the season around us.

Yesterday Rob and I stole away for a few hours to finish our Christmas shopping and eat a light lunch. As we sipped our coffee, we looked at each other and talked about how amazing our 30's have been. So much easier than the 20's. Maybe it's because the kids are older, maybe it's because we are more mature and able to 'handle' life with a bit more grace...whatever the reason, we are loving life.

My prayer is that you are loving life as well. The big and the small. Because it's all amazing.

Their eyes sparkled as I watched & listened to them talk about how they met, the proposal, and their dreams for life. Kate is full of life even as she manages life as a doctor and strange shifts. John is her stability and rock to lean on.

and I don't doubt for a second how much they adore each other.

Their September wedding sparkled as the clouds gave way to a beautiful fall day.

um, yes. Kate really is this beautiful.

The first look was under a willow tree.

Pure genius photog skills was too be had all over this day by the amazing Brandon Werth.

He blows me away.

Flowers were from Pearls and Lace

John's parents + grandparents were married in this same church: Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church. Such beautiful memories for them all.

Reception was held at Pracna on Main.

John's mom may be the next Martha Stewart. She is that amazing. All the reception floral was from her garden and made by her loving hands.

Sweets provided the delicious cupcakes that graced each table. They were a big hit!

Each guest took home an herb plant & some amazing candy treats.

All my love + congrats to this beautiful and sweet couple. Your wedding was beautiful and it was such a joy to share in it with you. Your both amazing!

When planning your wedding reception, think seriously about providing your own tablecloths. It adds such an element of personality to your wedding and does not have to to break the bank either.

Going with a pattern adds drama and more personality--which is perfect! You can do every other table to take away some of the cost but still have that punch of color.

This small wedding “sweet heart” table was put together with mismatching china patterns, glass vases, old books, lace and blue tablecloth. Look for things around your home, or even your grandmother’s home for ways to create a similar shabby chic feel.

You can find old lace tablecloths at thrift sales and dye them to your choice color.

The sky's the limit! Don't get tied down to white linens. Continue to think outside the box to make the weddings yours.

real wedding::John + Shirlee

The first time we sat down on a chilly day last winter, I fell in love with their love. They seemed to feed off one another as we chatted about their September wedding. Shirlee was a girl after my own heart. All her ideas and inspirations for their wedding was so exactly what I would do if I was getting married again. Complete with bird cages, games, and many-many sweets-this wedding had it all.

I was beyond honored and thrilled to work alongside of John + Shirlee. They are so fun and LOVE LIFE. Even though they are both doctors and have crazy schedules, they poured their hearts into every detail. It was beautiful + personal.

It was perfect.

The ceremony + reception was at the Gale Woods Farm.

The land is a beautiful Minnesota spot.

All the guests had a Polaroid picture taken as they arrived and it was placed in a guest book where they were able to pen a personal message.

Flowers by Linda of Nature's Gathering. She is so sweet and always does a beautiful job.

Each place setting held a different plate design. I loved this aspect. loved.

The cake table held a variety of delicious cakes from around the metro. They were amazing!

No wedding is complete without a candy bar. And did this wedding have candy! :)

Shirlee+John, I really do heart you. I love that you love footsie pj's and love to travel. I love that you aren't afraid to go for your dreams and that you respect and honor one another. Whenever I see a scrabble game, I think of you two and I smile.

Independent Wedding Association=love.

I recently was blessed to join a wedding association.

Not just isn't just any association. It's one that stands for quality, excellent value, and amazing service. 3 things that I aim to follow in my own business. How amazing to be a part of an Association that has the same basis that I follow.

The Independent Wedding Association had a wedding fair last Sunday and I was excited to be a part. This wasn't any kind of wedding fair I've ever seen. It was laid back, personalized, and FUN! There was food, drink, and a real wedding for guests-along with instructive panels and a dance class. Seriously? It was nothing short of amazing.

Here are a few pictures to show you it's fabulous-ness.
